HSV International Primary School

FAQ (Admissions)

Thank you for your interest in the HSV International Primary School. Please find below a list of frequently asked questions. If you have additional questions, please contact our admissions team on 070 318 4951 (between 09:00 and 15:00) or via e-mail at id-admissions@hsvdenhaag.nl.

From what age can I apply for a place at the HSV?

We accept applications once a child has turned one.

Can I visit the school before completing my application?

We offer monthly open mornings at each of our four locations so that you can see us at work. If you are not able to attend (one of) these, then please contact us to make a separate appointment. We can also set up online meetings to tell you about the school and how we work if you are not able to visit us in person.

Please note that we offer visits to the school only during term time and do not schedule visits at the weekend or in the school vacations.

What are the school fees?

School fees for the 2024-25 school year have been set at €6,700 per child (inclusive lunchtime supervision fee of €150). There is a non-refundable application fee of €150 payable when your application is submitted.

For children who join after 1st October, the school fees are calculated on a pro-rata basis.

Please see the section about school fees for more information.

Is the HSV International Department part of the gemeente Den Haag registration scheme?

The HSV International Department is not part of the Gemeente’s registration scheme and you need to apply via our online application form.

Can I choose the location?

While our online application form allows you to choose your top three locations, we cannot guarantee that we can offer your first choice location. If you are flexible, this will often increase your chances of getting a place at HSV.

Can I apply for a place in the HSV Dutch department and International Department at the same time?

The admissions criteria for the Dutch bilingual department at the Nassaulaan location and the International Department are very different. Families cannot therefore be eligible for both departments. Please read the admissions criteria for the International Department carefully before making your application.

When will I know my child has a place?

The places for the Early Years Foundation Stage classes (4-5 year olds), which start in August/September each year are normally confirmed from January/February of the year of entry (e.g. if your child is eligible for the 2025-26 school year, we will be in touch in January/February 2025).

For children entering school in the older classes, i.e. year 1 to 6, we offer places as soon as we know we have vacancies. We tend to know about vacancies in the April/May preceding the following school year.

If we have spaces once school starts, then we will let you know about vacancies as soon as your application is in order and the non-refundable application fee has been paid.

Once my child has been accepted, what are the instalments for payment?

If your child starts at the beginning of the school year, you are asked to make an initial payment when a place is offered and are invoiced for the remaining amount, normally in November.

How do the waitlists work and can you tell me where my child is on the waitlist?

All applications are handled based on the date of application. Once your application is completed, the supportive documents uploaded and the non-refundable application fee paid, your application will be reviewed and you will receive notification of placement on the waiting list. We do not issue waitlist numbers as these are constantly changing (due to sibling priority).

Do I need to attend an interview as part of the application process?

It is not necessary to be interviewed to join the school, although we do like to meet children prior to starting at school wherever possible. If we feel that we need more information on your child, we will set up a meeting to discuss things further. This is particularly important for children who may need additional support with learning or have health-related issues. We appreciate parents providing clear and detailed reports (and assessments if necessary) when making the application. The more information we have on your child, the better we will know if our school is a good fit for your child.

If your child is currently attending a school in The Netherlands, we will ask you to sign a form to give to the teacher to complete on your child’s development.

We do not accept any children in years 1-6 without a comprehensive overview of the child’s academic development.

My child does not have a school report (for years 1-6). What should I upload to the portal?

We are not able to proceed further with the admissions process if we have no educational overview of your child. We will therefore ask you to complete a survey and ask the teacher in the current school setting to complete a form for us.
