Pre-school class: Three Little Ships

For families with younger children, we have an international Pre-School, The Three Little Ships at our Van Heutszstraat location. This has places for children from the age of 3 and priority is given to the children in this class for the Foundation class at VHS as well as the reception classes at all locations. Please note that they have a separate admissions process, so please contact them directly to register.

Placement in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) classes

From August 2024 children who are 4 after October 1st will be able to join our first class after their 4th birthday. This is in line with the way children are admitted into the Dutch Department. This provision will be known as the foundation stage, which is a two year program to prepare children for their further primary education.

Children who are four years old when the school year starts in August or September join the Foundation Stage 2 class and are considered at the end of the same school year for their
readiness to move on to  year 1 the following year. Children turning four from October onwards can join the Foundation Stage 1 class and will continue in the Foundation Stage 2 class
through the remainder of the two year cycle, further supporting their development and readiness for ID1.

The curriculum (IEYC) will be recognisable as one where the children learn through play. IEYC will be organised on a two year cycle so that the children do not repeat areas of learning. Maths and Literacy will work as it does now with children engaging in activities that are appropriate to their developmental stage.

Placement is subject to availability and priority is given to children who are 4 before the end of December each year. If your child is turning 4 in the second half of the school year, you can consider applying to the pre-school, Three Little Ships and if places arise in the EYFS1 class your child will be transferred accordingly.

However, the International department of the HSV is not part of the Gemeente Den Haag’s school registration process. Subsequently we cannot tell you at the time of application if you will be offered a place if applying for entry in September 2024 and beyond, as we work actively only with the coming school year (and for all year groups).

We do not work with deadlines for the admissions process. We accept applications for the reception class when a child is 1 year old, however generally people apply once their child has turned 2. As we only work with the upcoming year, all applicants for 2024 and beyond will be waitlisted and we are not able to tell you at the time of application if your child has a guaranteed place with us. We normally confirm the reception places 8 months before the start of the school year. We will contact you during the school year if we still have availability in our EYFS classes when your child turns 4.

***Please note that we anticipate spaces in our reception classes for AUGUST 2024 and would welcome your completed application if your child is eligible for subsidised international education***
